ShadowBloom
A blackletter display typeface design available in Spanish, English & French characters, inspired by the female empowerment found in archetype of the femme fatale.

Objectives
- To design a display typeface evoking the power found in a confident woman who loves herself, and knows how to achieve her goals.
- Conveying complex narratives and emotions while pushing the boundaries of typographic design.
- Exploring feminist themes through design systems.
The Motif: Romantic & Dangerous
This typeface represents the power in femininity, and the sharpness in elegant and delicate elements. As the central flowers become negative, even more flowers proceed to grow from the strokes.
ShadowBloom displays the resilience women have always shown in a society that worked against them.
The Concept
The femme fatale is the first and most antique representation of female power in mythology, literature, art and film.
She’s a beautiful and mysterious woman who would seduce and manipulate men for her own purposes, often leading them to their deaths.

REFLECTIONS
My Learnings
- Executing a complex design system applicable in many shape variations, such as characters.
- Use of negative space in typography design.
- Incorporation of calligraphy and digital shapes motion.
What Needs Improvement
The size and placement on the flowers needs to be adjusted according to a grid, in order to avoid awkward space between characters.
Next Steps
With more time, I would like to create more characters and animate their appearance completely, as well as experiment with color variations in the organic motifs.
