The Problem

Postmates current UI design is very cold and unappetizing for a food delivery app, yet it still lacks in organization and clearness when it comes to categories. This results in quite a confusing experience for users trying to find what to order.

The Solution

To make a friendlier redesign of the UI in the app. We make use of welcoming, appetizing colors and streamlining the process of browsing in several ways based on suggestions according to the users’ taste.

Design Statement

Our goal is to create a sense of community and show users that Postmates is the delivery app for them.

To do this we chose a bright color palette, fun shapes, exploratory layout, and plenty of space for customization throughout the app.

Brand Archetypes
Design Principles
FRIENDLY
We want to welcome consumers to the app and bring warmth to the interface.
BOLD
With bright colors and fun shapes, our design will definitely catch attention.
FLEXIBLE
With bright colors and fun shapes, our design will definitely catch attention.
ADVENTUROUS
We want to encourage users to try new things, so our design reflects that.
FEATURE 01
Speed Mating

A swiping test that determines the flavors and food categories the users enjoy the most, through flavor and texture tags that are attributed to dishes. Using the results, the app can give personalized suggestions.

FEATURE 02
My Mates

User profiles that display posts, recent orders, personal favorites & reviews done by the profile. Users can befriend each other and use others’ saved activity as recommendations when looking for order ideas.

FEATURE 03
Post Rates

A detail-oriented review system that encourages users to express their thoughts about different aspects of food items they ordered, and enabling them to react to others’ opinions, creating a fun sense of community.

FEATURE 04
Keep Me Posted

A chat feature to facilitate user-restaurant and user-driver communication in real time. This way, users can clarify and have their needs better met when it comes to customizations in their orders.

REFLECTIONS
What's Working
  • We transformed the food delivery process and made it a social experience that encourages the user to be adventurous and try new things.
  • Users felt it was very easy and convenient to try dishes they hadn’t had before using the suggestions with characteristics they knew they enjoyed.
  • The color palette made users feel excited about the food they were about to order.
What Needs Improvement
  • Colors needs very precise combinations to achieve adequate visual contrast.
  • The design system needs to address the differences in applications for clean, rounded frames vs the sticker shaped ones.
Next Steps
  • Creating color skins for the user to pick from.
  • It would be quite meaningful to add a system where users can directly send food recommendations to someone in their friend list.
